Tattoos and the Meaning of Life

So I'm going to Germany a week from tomorrow...and on this trip I'll have the opportunity presented to me to get a tattoo from what I understand. And I decided a while ago that I wanted one, I mean I'm military and a rock star, isn't it weird that I don't have a tattoo already? But you see I have a problem, I don't know what to get put on my body that'll be there for the rest of my life. I mean you gotta think about those women out there with lower back tattoo's and how they're gonna feel 20 0r 30 years down the road when they have this stretched out, discolored and deformed tattoo on above their ever sagging and widening butt. I know I won't be going for the lower back tattoo, but something a little more conservative maybe on my arm or chest or something. But I really know what I want. I was thinking maybe I'll just go in and be like give me what ever you want, but this guys German, who knows what I'll end up with, I mean I don't think I want to live for the rest of my life with "mom" in German tattooed on my bicep if you know what I mean. So I'm asking for some help from the few people that read this blog. If you could lend me some ideas on this tattoo idea, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

a tattoo is forever (or at least a really long time) - i'd suggest spending some serious time on a design that is very personally meaningful -- my take is that they're not something to be done ala trendy - after all, a butterfly on the small of yer back is not a cool thing; neither is an iriquois indian tribal band (for the ladies)

my thought is: if you don't know the design you can't live without, refrain til you have one in mind. if you just have to do something silly, (& painful) dry shave your legs &/or chest...

the best advice i ever heard (and the big reason i don't have a tattoo):

decide on the design you think you want. put it up on the mirror so you look at it every morning for 6 months. if you still like it, it's a good tatoo.

note - mamma is german for mom according to google's translator. you really don't want that anywhere on your body.

i can't really add anything to what's been said on "why" or "where" of getting a tatt.

i can, however, give some advice on the pain of getting a tatt. i'm not sure you can handle that kind of pain. :( in the moment of excruciating pain you might call out for your "Mommie". :>)

have something tatooed on your scalp, when you want to see it just shave your head, bored? let your hair grow out. easy
